Jack Hanma is one of the most popular characters in the Baki franchise, and it’s entirely thanks to his brutal fighting style. While there are some bombastic characters with over-the-top personalities in Baki, that’s not the case with Jack Hanma. The half-brother of Baki and son of Yujiro is largely stoic and softspoken.
Here is a brief explanation of what Baki is actually about and how the stranger parts of the story fit into the main narrative. Baki is first and foremost about fighting, but what sets it apart from other series is its emphasis on the fighting itself as opposed to the fighters. Baki’s characters are defined by their martial arts, with their
Baki Hanma is based on the namesake third series of the Baki the Grappler manga collection, written and illustrated by Keisuke Itagaki. In the course of two seasons, it covers all 37 volumes (312
Baki 2018 and 2020 (new grappler Baki, how the manga is called) provides little info about the story. It's more about crazy fights and the meaning of victory and defeat. The OG Baki show is important tho. Just search for it on youtube (Baki the grappler). The anime left out some brutal scenes from the manga but it covers the same material.
Baki Hanma is the main titular protagonist of the martial arts anime and manga series, Grappler Baki or Baki Series. He is the second son of Yujiro Hanma, the legendary Strongest Creature on Earth and the half-younger brother of Jack Hanma. In the anime, he is voiced by Masami Kikuchi (seasons 1-2), Nobunaga Shimazaki (season 3) in Japanese and in English he is voiced by Robert McCollum
Read Baki in order of publication as every main title series is a direct sequel to the previous. 1) Baki the Grappler (1991) 2) Baki (1999) aka New Grappler Baki 3) Baki Hanma (2005) aka Baki Son of Ogre 4) Baki-Dou (2014) 5) Baki-Dou (2018) aka Baki-Dou 2. Anything else is a spin-off and I have no idea if there is a reading order for that or not.
